Called ‘Europe taking action to meet today’s challenges’, the 33 page Work programme is a valuable inventory of ongoing and commencing matters in the European Union. The main themes, divided under a plethora of subheadings, are:
1. Making Europe a model of sustainable social, ecological and economic development
2. Making Europe more attentive to the rights, security and aspirations of citizens
3. Reinforcing Europe’s role on the international stage
Given effective vacation closure during August, the events calendar for the rest of this ‘short’ presidency is packed with conferences and events, which give the reader an additional view into topical EU themes.
